I was poking around in Trailhead in the projects section, and I found a module that walks you through creating a handy little app that you can use to track what you are learning. The module is: Build an App to Track Your Trailblazer Journey

My purpose for starting this blog was to track my journey in preparing for my Admin certification, but I figured this would be a great exercise in building my first app. It was a fun, easy process, and it has really whetted my appetite to try building other apps now.

Aside from building my first app, I have been enjoying my journey on Salesforce’s Trailhead learning environment as I prepare for the Salesforce Administrator Certification exam. I have purchased the Admin practice exams from Focus on Force, and I immediately noticed that the content on Trailhead is excellent preparation for working as an Admin, it is not effective preparation for the test. I am in a study group through the Talent Stacker Career Development program and in our latest meeting we talked about the importance of balancing what we are learning in the Trailhead modules, and then looking at practice test questions on those topics.

If you have not already tried it, I recommend giving building an app a try. It is incredibly satisfying to build an app that works. It is quite simple, but it works. I cannot wait to build more complex apps next.

I started my journey with Salesforce Admin training after listening to an episode of The Side Hustle Show. As a multi-passionate entrepreneur wanna-be, I have been a listener to Nick’s show for a while and I have gotten some good ideas from him and his guests. A few weeks ago, I was listening to the podcast while I was out walking my dog when Bradley Rice was a guest. He was talking about how he makes more than $200,000 per year working part-time as a Salesforce Admin consultant. He talked about how easy it was to prepare for the certification credential, and the high-level salaries available to entry-level positions. I actually used Salesforce when I was a Digital Content Strategist at a law firm marketing company, but it did not necessarily stand out to me in any way. It was just one of the tools I used in my daily work. I also sat in a cubicle across from the Salesforce Admins and Developer team, so I heard them talking about it all day long. Unfortunately, it was just background noise to me at that point, but it’s interesting how things tend to come full circle sometimes.

Bradley was on Nick’s podcast to sell his course which teaches students how to prepare for a Salesforce Admin certification, and then get hired. To offer an introduction to the process, he has created a free, five-day course that walks you through what it would take to get certified and get a job. As soon as I got back into the house, I signed up for Bradley’s five-day free course. When the course was done, I signed up for Bradley’s Talent Stacker program and I am making exciting progress.

At this point, I have almost 9,000 points and 10 badges in my Trailhead account, and I am studying to take the certification exam. Today, I completed the Data Security and Identity Basics modules. Tomorrow, I plan to tackle the Security Specialist Superbadge. This will be my first super badge and I am equal parts nervous and excited about it. I have heard some people say that it’s really challenging, and other people said it was really fun. We shall see.

One of my favorite aspects of the Talent Stacker program is the private Facebook group and the study groups. I am in a group that is on an aggressive pace and another one that is on a casual pace. I am not sure how long it will make sense to stay in two groups, but for now, I am looking to get as much exposure to the materials as possible.
